Internship Program
Internship Summary
The 'Formal' Side
We divide the internship program into 6 categories that allow for the intern to work closely with one of our congregations, while spending time studying, preparing for ordination, and doing fieldwork and demographic studies for key neighborhoods. More responsibility is given to the intern as he demonstrates an ability to perform preliminary pastoral duties.
- Ministry
- Participate in worship
- Preach
- Lead home groups
- Oversee a specific ministry
- Field Work
- Research a Brooklyn neighborhood including demographic research
- Guided Study. We read about 4 or 5 books in the following categories
- Urban Ministry
- Apologetics & Evangelism
- Kingdom Ecclesiology
- Worship
- Pastoral Ministry
- Fundraising. This is a vitally important to urban ministry and a skill that can be developed so we set aside time to work on fundraising.
- Network. On occasion, interns present ministry proposals to the pastoral staff based on their interests and experience. They also sit in on other ministries within the church, such as budget and mercy team meetings.
The "Informal' Side
We have found that while the formal aspect of the internship is key to developing church planters there is another informal and yet vitally formative training that happens through relationships. Therefore we spend significant time together as a staff to cultivate relationship where this “osmosis” can happen.
